Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital in Nigeria has a problem – 800 corpses hanging around in the hospital mortuary. It’s run out of space.
Tha management has said they’re all going to be piled up and disposed of collectively if relatives don’t fetch them soon.
It’s rather unlikely that will happen however – some of the bodies have been there for more than a decade.
The hospital faces a dilemma: families whose relative is disposed of might sue it, if it cannot account for the body which it is legally supposed to preserve. Leaving the corpse in a mortuary is, after all, cheaper than having to organise a burial with the necessary full send-off.
