Up, up, and away

Alan Abrahamson,71, decided to commit suicide but he wanted his family to get his life insurance, which he feared wouldn’t happen if he killed himself.

So he pinched an ingenious plot from a TV show, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, where a man shoots himself, but the gun is tied to helium-filled balloons which float up and away after the lethal shot is fired.

Unfortunately cops in Florida had also seen the same episode of CSI and Abrahamson’s plot was foiled. According to Detective Bryan Broehm: “He tied a gun to a string and attached it to the weather balloon and once the shot was fired the weather balloon ascended carrying the weapon from the scene.” The gun was never found – police think it was carried to the Atlantic Ocean.
