Necrophilia, murder, drugs, weird accidents – even Korsakoff Syndrome – this one has it all.
Laurence Callaghan was celebrating his 51st birthday on 26 October 2016 in his home city of Dublin when he was accidentally run over and killed by a lorry.
He was jailed for four years in February 2000, for the manslaughter of his girlfriend, Janet Mooney, 29, over a lump of cannabis he thought she’d hidden from him.
During his trial, he had admitted that he had sex with Janet’s corpse the following morning, before realising that she was dead. But he could have been mistaken – Callaghan had chronic memory problems (Korsakoff Syndrome) due to his alcoholism.
Verdict: death by misadventure.
