Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, has said that the judicial authorities in the Philippines should investigate the claims by President Rodrigo Duterte, 71, that he personally killed supposed criminals while he was mayor of Davao City during 1988-98, and 2001-10.
The UN is also peeved about the 6,000 extra-judicial killings in the Philippines since Duterte – who also goes by the nickname Digong – became the country’s President in May 2016.
Duterte doesn’t like the UN, and doesn’t much like journalists either, around 174 of whom have been assassinated in the Philippines since 1986. He recently said: “Just because you’re a journalist you are not exempted from assassination if you’re a son of a bitch.”
As for Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein, Duterte didn’t mince his words. “You idiot, do not tell me what to do. Who gave you the right? Please shut up because your brain is lacking there,” he told Zeid. “Go back to school. You United Nations, you do not know diplomacy. You do not know how to behave to be an employee of the United Nations. You do not talk to me like that, you son of a bitch.”
Duterte has admitted being addicted to Fentanyl, a synthetic opioid 100 times stronger than morphine. His doctor should up the dose.
