The poetic cannibal

Dmitry Luchin took to verse when he made his defence in the Russian city of Novgorod on a charge of murdering and eating parts of a woman on 8 March this year.

He and the woman were drinking and started to argue and he stabbed her to death. Luchin informed police that he drank her blood and ate parts of her brain and other organs.

He said in rhyming verse that he is not “a maniac, a murderer, a cannibal” but rather an innocent “student, athlete, and poet.”

He got 19 years.
