Sins of the fathers

Children of parents who use legally prescribed synthetic opioids for at least a year have been found to be more than twice as likely to attempt suicide as those whose parents do not, according to a study published in JAMA Psychiatry.

The study used medical insurance data from 2010 to 2016 for more than 300,000 American children of the ages 10-19. Less than half a per cent of those with parents who used the drugs tried to kill themselves, against 0.14% of children of non-users.
