Shredded

Mid UK Recycling has been fined £800,000 and ordered to pay costs of £100,000 following the death of Karlis Pavasars, a citizen of Latvia who moved to the UK in 2009.

Pavarsars fell onto a conveyor belt while cleaning equipment at the company’s plant in Lincolnshire in July 2013, and was dragged into the shredder which recycles household waste into pellet-sized fuel.

His body was identified by matching samples with DNA from his toothbrush. Body fragments, a boot and parts of Pavasars’s hi-vis jacket were found inside the machine.
