Lobsters can look forward to a different form of death in Switzerland from 1 March this year.
The Swiss government says that from that date it will be illegal to put a lobster directly into a pan of boiling water.
Instead they will have to be stunned first by electric shock or the “mechanical destruction” of their brain.
It will also become illegal to transport them – and other live marine crustaceans – on ice. Instead they must always “be held in their natural environment”.
