Frank Kelly has died at the age of 77.
He featured in the long-running 1980s Channel 4 comedy series Father Ted, where he played a semi-senile, drunk, lascivious, foul-mouthed and irascible old Roman Catholic priest, who shared a house (shown in the photograph) with two other equally mad priests.
Kelly started out as a sub-editor with an Irish newspaper before giving it up to act.
In Christmas 1982 he had a hit record with Christmas Countdown, a hilarious monologue based on The 12 Days of Christmas.
He survived bowel cancer in 2011, and suffered from Parkinson’s disease.
