Alida Victória Grubba Rudge, the oldest verified person in the world and certainly the oldest woman in Brazil and South America, died on 23 December in Jaraguá do Sul, Brazil, at the ripe old age of 113 years and 166 days.
In her old age she enjoyed reading newspapers, watching TV, riding in a car, fishing and playing cards. She had only one child, who is 89.
She stayed in bed much of the time in her final years, but had a healthy appetite. She said the secret “is to go to the doctor regularly, have a healthy diet, no fried foods and sweets, and drink a glass of dry wine before meals.”
