Radical pruning

Loreto Peel, 79, loved the garden of her Dublin home and was often to be found outside clipping the hedges and bushes.

An inquest has just learned that she died from a chest wound from her garden shears; she fell from a ladder and the shears penetrated the upper lobe of her right lung causing blood loss, and a collapsed lung.

In giving a verdict of accidental death the coroner said “it was such a shocking and unanticipated thing to happen.”
