Pump up the veins

“I wouldn’t necessarily characterize what we had tonight as a problem,” said Jeff Dunn, Alabama Department of Corrections commissioner, to reporters.

He was speaking to them after the aborted execution of Doyle Hamm in Arkansas. Hamm’s veins wouldn’t stand up to the lethal injections; the executioners tried for two-and-a-half hours and gave up after more than 12 different jabs in his groin, or in areas between his knees and feet.
