Poetic justice, of a kind

You can’t keep a bad man down.

Paul ‘Hippo’ Ward was staying with his nephew, Daniel Greene, 35, at a Dublin hotel in August 2015.

Greene died there after stuffing himself with alcohol and drugs. A toxicology report at the inquest into his death has just reported evidence in his corpse of diazepam; heroin; cocaine; alcohol; and levamisole, a livestock de-wormer.

The verdict was death by misadventure.

Uncle ‘Hippo’ was accused of being part of a drugs’ gang involved in the murder of the wonderful and brave Irish investigative journalist Veronica Guerin (pictured), in 1996. She was shot six times when sitting in her car at traffic lights in Dublin.

‘Hippo’ was jailed for life, only to have the conviction overturned on appeal.

Doubles all round.
