Pissing rat

A severe outbreak of leptospirosis has killed at least one person in the Bronx, New York City’s northernmost borough. The cause is probably pissing rats – leptospirosis is a bacterial infection largely spread by rodents. Normally it’s not serious and infected people feel they have a bad dose of flu. Antibiotics usually clear it up. Sometimes it becomes more serious and then it’s known as Weil’s disease – which can lead to organ failure and eventual death.

The cases have all been sourced to one particular building – the landlord of which is accused of 79 building code violations. Letitia James, NYC’s public advocate, blamed the death on the building’s landlord, Ved Parkash, whom she had publicly shamed in 2016 as the fourth-worst landlord in the city in an annual list.
