Pipe bomber bombs out

Walter Moody Jr. has become the oldest person to be executed in modern US history, at the age 0f 83. He was given a lethal injection in Alabama, where he had spent the last 22 years in jail, having been found guilty of blowing up Judge Robert S. Vance with a steel pipe bomb packed with 80 nails.

He was first convicted of planning a bomb attack in 1972 – that was intended for a car dealer who had repossessed his car. A qualified lawyer, Moody was said to be brilliant, skillful and determined to wreak vengeance on the US courts for failing to have his first conviction overturned.
