Peru’s sunshine darkens

Peru’s bloody past just got dusted down, with the demolition by police of a mausoleum dedicated to eight Shining Path (Sendero Luminoso) marxist terrorists.

They were just some of the 250 suspected Shining Path prisoners who were murdered in three prisons in June 1986 by security forces.

The mausoleum was built by relatives of the dead rebels.

Between 1980 and 2000 it’s estimated as many as 70,000 people died in the conflict between Sendero and the authorities.
