In Canada in 2008 Will Baker, formerly known as Vince Li, a diagnosed schizophrenic, killed Tim McLean on a Greyhound bus.
Baker said he heard the voice of God telling him to kill McLean, a complete stranger, or “die immediately.”
So he stabbed McLean, who was aged 22. The other passengers fled the bus; Baker carried on stabbing. At last he cut off McLean’s head and held it aloft so everyone could get a good look.
He was found not criminally responsible, due to mental illness.
He’s now been granted an absolute discharge by Manitoba’s Criminal Code Review Board; that means he is longer subject to monitoring. The monitoring was the only thing that made sure he took his medication to fend off the schizophrenia.
