Leopard ignores religious rites

Tricky creatures, leopards, except when it comes to changing their spots.

In Maharashtra, India, a Buddhist monk called Rahul Walke has been fatally mauled by a wandering leopard.

Walke had been a member of a temple in the Tadoba forest, a protected tiger reserve, and was in the habit of going deeper into the forest to meditate – despite warnings.

Walke’s family is to be given 1.2 Rupees (about £13,000) by the state in compensation for their loss.
