Lady Xinzhui

The so-called “sleeping beauty of the East” is now on display again after five years of renovation work at the museum where she lives, in Changsha, China.

Lady Xinzhui, the 2,200 year old corpse of the wife of Marquis Li Cang, during the Western Han Dynasty (206 BC-25 AD), remains remarkably well-preserved, with hair, nails and supposedly moist skin.

When discovered in 1972 the body was found inside four layers of tombs, 20 layers of silk, and 80 litres of an unknown acidic liquid.
