In Florida, the county of Manatee has said it’s in the early stages of filing a legal action against unnamed pharmaceutical companies that produce opioids, because the county is running out of space to store the dead in mortuaries.

The crisis from opioid overdose deaths is so extreme in Manatee that the county is being forced to build a new mortuary.

Dr. Russell Vega, the county’s chief medical examiner, said: “You’ve got to have refrigeration or the bodies decompose. No one wants that.”
