It’s the thought that counts

Nicholas Helman, 20, of Philadelphia, US, has been sentenced to 20-to-40 years in jail.

He pleaded guilty to a variety of charges including attempted murder.

In March 2014 he sent a scratch & sniff card to a man who was dating his ex-girlfriend.

He had laced the scratch & sniff card with a lethal dose of the poison ricin, concocted from castor oil beans.

He then boasted about the act, and was informed on. The authorities got to the intended recipient of the card before it was opened.
