It’s not only cold in Alaska

The suicide rate in Alaska went up by 13% between 2012 and 2017 (compared to 2007-2011) and was the leading cause of death in the state for people between the ages of 10 and 64. No one knows why more Alaskans are killing themselves than in the past.

70% of the suicides involved poisoning of one kind or another, usually alcohol.
