Scary stuff from the science journal – err – Science. In an article two biologists – Jonathan Baillie and Ya-Ping Zhang – claim that in order to avoid what they call an “extinction crisis” the amount of the world’s land that is protected by law needs to be expanded from the current 14.7% to at least 50% by 2050. “Anything less will likely result in a major extinction crisis and jeopardize the health and wellbeing of future generations.”
It’s a safe bet that is not going to happen.
