Do you remember Sandy Hook? That was the elementary school in Connecticut where on 14 December 2012 20 year-old Adam Lanza took his guns and shot dead 20 schoolchildren aged six and seven, six adult staff members of the same school. He’d already shot dead his mother.
President Obama shed a tear before cameras and said: “We’re going to have to come together and take meaningful action to prevent more tragedies like this, regardless of the politics.”
The only meaningful action as a direct consequence of that massacre seems to have been that sales of guns in the US rose by three million, according to a piece of research published in Science.
There’s more. The researchers say: “We find that an additional 60 deaths overall, including 20 children, resulted from unintentional shootings in the immediate aftermath of Sandy Hook.”
