John Paul Childs, 39, who lived in Torquay, England, was found dead at the bottom of 200 foot cliffs in South Devon. He was single, and suffered from bipolar disease and slept badly.
At the top of the cliffs he had left his phone, wallet and other personal items, which were found by a stranger.
The coroner recorded an open verdict. He said: “His family make a valid point that we have got no extraneous evidence, and no note was left. For me to record that he has ended his own life I must be sure that is what happened, and I am not sure. I am also not sure that it was an accident.”
