If you have a weird addiction to sinister memorabilia, you might manage to bid enough to buy Adolf Hitler’s personal telephone, which will be auctioned in the US on 19 February.
The red and heavily battle-scarred phone – complete with swastika and Hitler’s name stamped on it – was taken from the Fuehrer’s bunker after he killed himself in 1945 by the British officer Brigadier Sir Ralph Rayner.
He took it back to his home in Devon. The Siemens-made Bakelite phone was passed from father to son Ranulf, who at 82 has now put it up for sale. It fetched £161,000.
