In Newberg, Oregon, the trial has just started of Edna Bennet, 76. She is accused of negligent homicide and arson.
On 1 June last year her mobile home exploded, thanks to 12 gallons of petrol she had bought.
In the blaze her friend, Ana Frigine-York, died – Bennet and her daughter were not at home. Apparently Frigine-York, who had been living at the same place for eight years, committed suicide.
She could face 25 years in jail; but she’s done a plea bargain with the police and is likely to get just 18 months.
