Giant burial

The skeleton of the giant Charles Byrne (pictured centre with other giants), who stood seven feet and seven inches, may finally get buried, having been on display at the UK’s Royal College of Surgeons’ Hunterian Museum since 1799.

Byrne died in 1793 aged 22. Byrne, who was born in Derry, Ireland, said that he wanted to be buried at sea in a lead coffin to stop his body being used for scientific research.
