The George Washington Bridge in New Jersey, US, is a favoured spot for suicides – 12 jumped to the deaths from there last year.
It’s a busy bridge – around 100 million vehicles annually drive across.
It’s also dangerous for the security guards who maintain a 24 hour watch on the bridge, which is regarded as a potential terrorist target.
Last week a 23 year-old man jumped from the bridge and squished himself close to a guard booth near the Little Red Lighthouse, a historic landmark underneath the bridge in Manhattan’s Fort Washington Park.
