In Memphis, Tennessee, the city council has voted unanimously to disinter the remains of a Confederate General, Nathan Bedford Forrest, and those of his wife, Mary Ann Montgomery, and re-bury them at as yet undisclosed location.
Bedford Forrest was the Ku Klux Klan’s first Grand Wizard.
During the American Civil War he was accused of war crimes; he permitted the massacre of hundreds of Union prisoners – black and white. He made a fortune through slave trading.
According to the Council: “it is no longer politically correct to glorify someone who was a slave trader.”
