Executions are down

In 2018 there were 690 executions officially, according to Amnesty International’s annual review. This was much less than the year before – 2017 saw 993. But these figures are open to doubt as China – the world’s top state for executions – keeps its lips tightly sealed when it come to this matter.

The world’s top five executing countries are China, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Vietnam, and Iraq.
