Drink up!

Americans have long been on a synthetic opioid bender – but they like more traditional ways of killing themselves, too.

Such as booze.

US liver disease deaths rose by 65% during 1999-2016. Liver cirrhosis deaths went up from 20,661 in 1999 to 34,174 in 2016, according to a study of almost 600,000 death certificates.

Those aged between 25 and 34 saw an annual average increase in cirrhosis deaths of 10.5%.
