Russian TV has reported an unusual development in the corpse business – self-service.
In the far eastern Jewish Autonomous Oblast (pictured), people have grown used to seeing cars drive past at night with limbs sticking out of the boot, as people deliver their dead relatives to the nearest mortuary. Mortuary attendants do not operate a 24/7 service.
So instead people need to bring their dead to the mortuary. One has a scribbled note sellotaped to the door saying “Bring your corpse, turn on the refrigerator. Press the top button behind the fridge to the left, and wait till it beeps.”
