Death by escalator

78 year-old John Murphy was happily going about his shopping in Cork, Eire, when he fell foul of a downward escalator in May this year.

An inquest has been told that he inadvertently placed his crutch on the escalator, which naturally immediately whisked it away, dragging him forward, and he tumbled to the bottom.

The inquest ruled he died an accidental death.
