Mistaken identity led police to shoot dead Richard Black in his own home in Aurora, Colorado.
Black was 73; he had just shot dead an intruder, identified as Dajon Harper, aged 26. Harper had apparently been attending a party across the road.
Events were, to say the least, confused. There are reports that Harper had started a fracas by banging on Black’s door, naked, and knocked the door off its hinges. Black’s grandson and wife were in the house and Harper started attacking the grandson.
By the time the cops turned up the mayhem was complete. Cops did what cops do best – they killed the guy left standing – but he was the wrong man.
