Christmas dinner

Corvalol is a mild tranquiliser which is popular in the former Soviet Union. It contains valerian and phenobarbital.

Dmitry Baksheev, 35, and his wife Natalia, 42,  used the drug to dope some 30 people in the city of Krasnodar, before cutting them up and eating them.

Their unusual eating habits first started in 1999. They have been arrested thanks to a phone belonging to Dmitry which was found to contain unusual images of what seemed to be cut up body parts.

In their flat, police have discovered frozen body parts belonging to eight different people, together with 19 bits of human skin and footage called “video lessons for cannibals”.

They also found a number of photos including one dated 29 December 1999; it appears to show a human head served as Christmas dinner.
