China’s missing

China is getting old. By 2050 25% of its population – around 114 million people – is going to be aged 65-plus.

By 2030, the annual deaths in China from coronary heart disease, stroke and lung cancer are estimated to reach 800 000, 3 million, and 1.7 million, respectively.

Bizarrely enough, some 500,000 old Chinese people go missing each year, according to the latest China Health of Retirement Longitudinal Study 2015 report.

So if you find an old Chinese person aimlessly wandering, be kind: point them home.
