Brain warehouse

A lack of cash is causing a brain bottleneck in Australia.

In 2005 a national network of ‘banks’ for brains donated for medical research was set up, financed with A$4.5 million by the country’s National Health and Medical Research Council.

But the federal money dried up in 2014. The states were expected to fund their own brain research banks.

Most haven’t. So the brains are just stacking up in formaldehyde.
