Mix in 300 million guns and 40 million cases of mental illness, and what do you get? A big shoot-out by seriously unhappy people, that’s what.
According to Mental Health America, about 56% of American adults with a mental illness go untreated. 40 million US citizens have a mental illness such as depression or anxiety; six out of 10 young people with major depression do not receive any treatment.
Connecticut is the best state for mental health care, followed by Massachusetts and Vermont, while Arizona, Oregon, and Nevada were the bottom three.
Each year in the US there are more than 33,000 deaths from shooting.
