Ambition dies for Gove

Michael Gove, the British government’s environment secretary, nurtured hopes of becoming the UK’s Prime Minister just a couple of years ago.

No more.

He has apparently relinquished the ambition to replace the zombie Theresa May at number 10 Downing Street – because he does not wish to stand in the way of the ambitious Liz Truss, the Treasury secretary, who wants to have a crack at the job herself.

In June 2018 Gove told the world that he and Truss were the “best of friends”. So nice. One might almost think the two were sweethearts. That’s impossible of course, as both are already married to other people.
